The BUENA VISTA SCHOOL DISTRICT serves a community of around 2,500 residents in northern Chaffee County, Colorado. The school district states that its mission is “to ensure everystudent reaches the peak of success.” The school’s core set of beliefs provides the underpinnings of the educational philosophy for the school district: every student deserves teachers who are competent, passionate, and are positive role models in terms of character and life-long learning; students are best served by the recruiting of strong teachers whose skills and talents are appropriately supported by the school district and community. A major factor in assisting students to reach their full potential is the relationship between the student and the teacher. Thus, it is expected and encouraged that the BVSD teachers will build these relationships in their daily work with students. Recently, the BVSD was recognized by the state of Colorado as a “District of Performance” based upon evaluation of student achievement and growth.
